I parted ways with my literary agent about five years ago, and have been trying to find a new one for the last two years. You're right - it is definitely HARD. I still want to be traditionally published, but I'm starting to rethink that decision because I would like my work to get out there sooner rather than later!
That brings up an important point: even if you find an agent, it may end up not being a good fit for whatever reason, and you're back searching again. Even if you've had rep before, it doesn't mean it's easier the next time. Good luck!
Great read! I agree 100% with your conclusion: "As with any other art form, you have to do it for the love of it first and foremost. Let that love help you persevere, no matter the outcome." In the face of odds like that, you need the love to sustain you. (I've also found a few drams of delusional thinking to be helpful in my pursuits!)
